100 Prints Project #28 - Passing Ship

Taken in Duluth in Canal Park on a cool, wet March evening right after the shipping season had re-opened on Lake Superior.  This was taken with the camera firmly planted on a tripod with a long exposure.  I have quite a few version of this one, some with the aerial lift bridge in motion and some where the light trails of the ship are dramatically long.  In the end this is the one my mind settled on.

  1. Lovely tones here, Jane. This photo is wonderful to me because it reminds me of here! My town is bisected by the Welland Canal, and waiting while the lift bridge is up and a ship passes is a way of life.

Nice job of capturing motion blur from the ship without blowing out the street lights.

  2. I love the way you've captured the motion blur, beautifully done.

This is fabulous Jane! Love the blur! I travel through Duluth a lot as we have a cabin in Lutsen. I bring my camera every time to capture the beauty....but I can never quite capture it the way you do. I am a portrait photographer wishing I could see and capture the world like you do!
As always ~ this is inspirational!

  4. This is the best I have seen Jane. Really great.
